A Bone & Blood Fetish is a powerful magical object crafted from the raw, untamed energies of these primal substances. The creation of such a fetish can serve a variety of purposes: protection, cursing, binding, banishing, and even healing. Rooted in the understanding that both blood and bone carry immense spiritual weight, these fetishes are considered “living” objects—symbols of both power and sacrifice. But crafting one is not for the faint of heart. It requires knowledge, respect, and deep immersion into the spirit realms.
The History of Bone & Blood Fetishes:
Bone and blood fetishes date back to ancient times, long before the rise of modern witchcraft or pagan traditions. The use of bones in magical practices can be traced back to the earliest human civilizations, with evidence from prehistoric rituals that include the burial of sacred bones and the crafting of objects from bone material. Similarly, blood—especially the blood of animals or humans—has always been viewed as a potent conduit between the physical and spiritual worlds.
In African shamanic traditions, bones have been used for centuries to craft charms, as they are believed to carry the essence of the spirit and the body of the deceased. The Yoruba people, for example, use bones in divination practices, while the Zulu and other Southern African cultures have long incorporated bones into spiritual rituals, often using them for protection or to invoke the spirits of ancestors.
In Voodoo and Hoodoo traditions, blood and bones are used in a multitude of ways, from binding spells to curses. The blood of animals, especially the chicken or goat, has long been utilized in rituals of sacrifice to attract or banish spirits, and the bone often serves as an anchor, a focal point for the spirit’s power to manifest. The practice of using blood as an offering to spirits has also been noted in European witchcraft, particularly in ancient Celtic and Norse traditions, where blood was considered a powerful offering to the gods.
Historically, the first documented use of bone fetishes in witchcraft can be found in ancient Egypt, where bones were used in magical amulets to protect the living from evil spirits or to channel divine favor. The Egyptians often buried their dead with amulets made of bone or bone-like substances (such as ivory or stone), believing that these bones would act as a vessel for the spirit's protection and guidance.
As time progressed, the practice of creating fetishes from bone and blood spread throughout Europe, Africa, and the Americas, each culture imbuing their own spiritual meanings and methods into the objects they crafted. In dark European witchcraft, during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, bones were often used in necromantic practices, while blood played a role in both curse work and as an offering to the Devil in the context of pact-making or other diabolical rites.
Ancient Egypt:
The first recorded use of bone fetishes can be traced to ancient Egypt, where bones were used in amulets and charms, often placed in the graves of the deceased to protect the spirit in the afterlife. The ancient Egyptians used bone talismans to ward off evil spirits and ensure safe passage for the soul. Ankh symbols, often crafted from bone or ivory, were worn for protection, acting as a conduit for life force.
Shamanic Practices:
In shamanic traditions across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, bones were considered to house the spirit and served as powerful magical tools. For example, African shamanism makes extensive use of bones to craft magical implements, believing that they connected the practitioner to the world of ancestors and spirits. Similarly, in Native American traditions, bones were often used to create sacred objects for both healing and protective rituals. Shamans would carve bones into charms that could invoke the spirits of the animal totems or ancestors.
European Witchcraft:
During the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Europe, witchcraft practitioners—especially those involved in necromantic and dark practices—used bones in rituals that dealt with life and death, invoking spirits for guidance or protection. Blood was considered an even more powerful medium in these rituals, often used in rites of sacrifice to invoke demons or otherworldly forces.
The practice of combining blood and bone became prominent in the dark practices of Hoodoo and Voodoo, where both blood and bones were used in rituals designed to control or harm others. In these traditions, the use of blood (especially from ritual sacrifices) was believed to invoke the most potent energies, connecting the practitioner to supernatural forces and deities. Voodoo priests and priestesses used blood in rituals to both summon spirits and banish enemies, often carving bones with runes or symbols to direct the spirits’ energies.
The Purpose of Bone & Blood Fetishes:
A Bone & Blood Fetish can be created for a variety of purposes, depending on the intent of the practitioner. Below are the various ways these fetishes are traditionally used:
1. Protection:
Bone & blood fetishes are often used for protection against malevolent forces, spirits, or curses. By binding the energies of both blood and bone, a powerful force field is created that acts as a shield, safeguarding the practitioner or their space.
- Creating a Protection Fetish:
- Materials Needed: A bone (human, animal, or a piece of bone relic), a blood offering (your own or animal blood), protective herbs (such as sage, garlic, or black salt), a black candle.
- Process:
- Begin by cleansing your space with a protective smoke or incense (such as sage or frankincense).
- Inscribe protective symbols or runes onto the bone (such as the pentacle, a protective sigil, or other personal protective symbols).
- Anoint the bone with a drop of your own blood or animal blood.
- As you do this, chant an invocation of protection, such as, “By the bone of the earth, by the blood of life, I call upon the spirits to guard and protect.”
- Place the fetish in a sacred space, such as near the door or under your bed, where its energy will protect your home or person.
2. Cursing:
A curse fetish is one of the most potent and dangerous forms of magical work, channelling both the destructive power of blood and the cold, relentless force of bone. These fetishes are used to bring about misfortune, suffering, or karmic retribution upon a target.
- Creating a Curse Fetish:
- Materials Needed: A bone (typically sharp or broken), blood (from the target, if possible), personal items of the target (hair, nails, etc.), dark herbs (such as graveyard dirt or mugwort), a black candle.
- Process:
- Begin by preparing your space and grounding your energy. This work should be done in a place free of distractions.
- Bind the blood and bone together by either wrapping the bone in cloth soaked in blood or using the blood to carve a symbol of the curse onto the bone.
- As you do this, focus all your anger, frustration, or ill will toward the target, imagining the curse taking hold. Chant dark, binding words such as, “Bone to blood, blood to curse, let them feel the pain I wish them first.”
- If possible, bury the fetish under the target’s doorstep or near their home, allowing the curse to settle into their life.
3. Binding:
Binding fetishes are used to restrict the actions or behaviours of an individual, such as preventing someone from causing harm or controlling their movements.
- Creating a Binding Fetish:
- Materials Needed: A bone, blood, a piece of string or thread, a personal item from the person to be bound (such as a photograph, hair, or nail clippings).
- Process:
- Wrap the string tightly around the bone, binding it. This represents the restriction of movement or action.
- As you do so, anoint the bone with your blood, focusing on your intent to stop the person or situation from moving forward.
- Chant words such as, “With bone and blood, I bind thee tight, let thy path not pass through the night.”
- Keep the fetish hidden in a box or jar, symbolizing the restriction of the target’s power.
4. Banishing:
A banishment fetish is created to expel unwanted energies, spirits, or influences from your life or space. By using the primal energy of blood and the unyielding nature of bone, this fetish acts as a spiritual vacuum, sucking away all negative forces.
- Creating a Banishing Fetish:
- Materials Needed: A bone, blood, banishing herbs (such as rue or wormwood), a black candle.
- Process:
- Inscribe a banishing symbol (such as a crossed-out circle or X) onto the bone.
- Sprinkle the bone with banishing herbs and anoint it with blood.
- Chant, “With bone and blood, I banish thee, let thee go and never be.”
- Place the fetish at the doorway or in a place where negative energy resides, allowing it to absorb and expel the unwanted forces.
Activating Your Bone & Blood Fetish for Potent Results:
To activate a fetish, the practitioner must focus their energy and intent. The most potent activation methods involve:
- Blood Sacrifice: Offer a drop of blood to the fetish, infusing it with your personal energy.
- Binding Rituals: Use the fetish in specific rituals, such as protective rituals or those targeting a specific goal (curse, banishment, etc.).
- Focusing Energy: Hold the fetish while meditating, focusing on the outcome you desire. Chant or recite a prayer or incantation that aligns with your intent.
- Charging with Moonlight or Fire: Use the natural energies of the moon or fire to supercharge the fetish. Allow it to sit in the moonlight (particularly during a full moon) or burn the fetish in a controlled fire to enhance its power.
Caution:
The creation and use of Bone & Blood Fetishes are deeply sacred and not to be undertaken lightly. The energy you invoke, whether protective or cursing, can return to you tenfold. These fetishes are powerful tools, but they also carry the potential for great consequences if not respected. Always work within your limits and understand the weight of the magic you wield. Be mindful of the spirits you may awaken or provoke. When working with such potent, primal forces, ensure that you are fully prepared to handle the power you summon or bind.
Remember, the blood you spill and the bones you break are not simply physical; they bind you to forces beyond the veil. Work wisely, and always close your rituals with care.
